What Do I Do?
An installation at the Institute for Design & Experimental Art (IDEA) in Sacramento, Ca. Nov. 2 - Dec. 14, 1991.
I chose to focus on structures that we create for ideological and physical control. Structures that define limits of engagement. I explored the notion that many of us seek freedom from choice. What we desire are structures that render the world knowable and safe. The installation consists of two barriers, one hard (large picket fence) and the other soft (white fabric). A corridor is created by the fences that dead ends into an area with a large wall image of an authoritative "politico" figurehead (the Grand Wizard) symbolizing our political and religious doctrines.
